I want to know what other kinds of ketchup there are. I don’t know of any OTHER than tomato ketchup, but all the bottles say “tomato ketchup.” I’ve heard of “Nomato ketchup,” which I just don’t understand, but it wouldn’t BE nomato ketchup if everything else didn’t say tomato. Have you ever heard of orange ketchup or kiwi ketchup? I really must know.
In St. Lucia they had banana ketchup! It actually wasn’t too bad!!
Other intelligent minds have also pondered this question! Found some interesting info on another blog – http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/379502.
Comments include the history of “ketchup” – the term originally referred to brown sauce with mushrooms or fish brine.
And besides banana ketchup – and it’s hot cayanne variation – other types of “ketchup” still made in UK include blueberry, anchovy, oyster, lobster, walnut, kidney bean, cucumber, cranberry, lemon, and grape (per wikipedia).
Maybe the fruit ones are like jelly or jam – if so wouldn’t be awful – but the others sound gross to me.
Now I feel complete – I’ve learned something new!
I’m so glad you feel complete. :) Thanks for the info on ketchup.
